If the issue wasn’t resolved by following a support article, continue to the next section.

Try quick troubleshooting steps

  1. Remove any cases or screen protectors. Touch the screen with your finger pads, not your fingernails.

  2. Clean the display with a soft, damp, lint-free cloth.

    • Important: Unplug all cables and turn off the iPad first. Don't use products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide. Avoid getting moisture in any openings, and don't submerge the iPad in any cleaning agents. Don't use compressed air.

  3. To remove dust or smudges from the nano-texture glass screen, use only the polishing cloth that came with your iPad. For infrequent cleaning of hard-to-remove smudges, you can moisten the cloth with a 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solution.

  4. Refer to steps and support resources in Troubleshooting Quick Checks.

Run manual and diagnostic tests

If the issue wasn’t resolved by following a support article or checking for potential causes, run these diagnostic and manual tests to help isolate the cause of the issue:

  1. Run the Mobile Resource Inspector (MRI) diagnostic suite.

  2. For blank or black screen issues, try these steps:

    1. Plug the device into a known-good 10W or 12W Apple power adapter that is connected to AC power using a compatible charging cable.

    2. Wait until an image appears on the screen, or for up to 10 minutes, whichever comes first. If the device has no power and doesn't turn on after completing the previous steps, then the device may have a power issue. Follow troubleshooting steps in Troubleshooting power, battery, or charging issues.

    3. If an image appears on the device display after charging, then the device may have a charging issue. Follow troubleshooting steps in Troubleshooting power, battery, or charging issues.

    4. If an image appears in recovery mode, connect the device using a known-good cable to a known-good computer running the latest version of macOS. If the device is recognized by the computer, then the device has power. Restore the device if prompted. Continue troubleshooting only if the device can display an image.

  3. For image quality issues, try these steps:

    1. Run the Display Pixel Anomalies diagnostic suite.
