Open an iBooks Author book in Pages on Mac
You can open an iBooks Author file in Pages, then export your book from Pages to EPUB format, and publish it directly from Pages to Apple Books. Pages creates a document from your iBooks Author file and includes all of the page templates (both used and unused) from the iBooks Author template. iBooks Author books made from reflowable templates are converted to word-processing documents in Pages and books made from fixed layout templates are converted to page layout documents.
Not all iBooks Author features are supported by Pages, so your imported book may look different from the original. If your book includes unsupported features such as certain widgets or a cover in a different orientation than the rest of the book, that content is saved in a separate folder for your reference.
Open a book in Pages
Click the iBooks Author file once to select it, then choose File > Open With > Pages (from the File menu at the top of the screen).
You can also drag and drop the file onto the Pages icon in the Dock or Applications folder.
Do one of the following:
For a book with no unsupported content: Click OK in the dialog.
For a book with unsupported content: Click Continue in the dialog. Choose where you want to save the content folder for unsupported content, then click Save. (To see more locations, click the down arrow next to the Where pop-up menu).
To save the book as a Pages document, choose File > Save.
Choose where you want to save the document, then click Save.
You can make changes to your iBooks Author content in Pages before you export in EPUB format or publish to Apple Books. After you save your document the first time, you don’t need to save again. Pages automatically saves changes as you work.
Reuse saved cover and widget content
Content from unsupported covers and widgets is saved in the content folder you created when you imported the iBooks Author file. Open the content folder and do any of the following:
Create a new cover: Open the Cover.pages file and choose File > Export To > PDF (from the File menu at the top of the screen). Click Next, type a new name for the cover, choose where you want to save it, then click Export. Later, you can attach the cover when you export your book in EPUB format.
Use widget content: Decide how you want to use the content featured in the unsupported widget (for example, in a table, image gallery, or video). Open the widget file and refer to it as you recreate its content in Pages. You can copy and paste some types of content from the reference files into the Pages document.
