Server Settings preferences for Jabber
Use the Server Settings pane of Accounts preferences in Messages to change server settings for Jabber. In most cases, you don’t need to change these settings. If you do need to make changes, you must disable the account first.
To view these preferences in Messages, choose Messages > Preferences, click Accounts, select the Jabber account, then click Server Settings. To disable the account, click Account Information, then deselect the “Enable this account” checkbox.
Server | The name of the server that all communication passes through. Note: If “Automatically find server and port” is checked, you can’t edit this field. | ||||||||||
Port | This port depends on the configuration of the server that handles your messages. Note: If “Automatically find server and port” is checked, you can’t edit this field. | ||||||||||
Use SSL | Select to enable chatting only when Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is available. | ||||||||||
Automatically find server and port | Select to have the server and port information filled in automatically if your network uses a single server and port. | ||||||||||
Warn before sending password insecurely | Select to show a warning if your password will be sent unencrypted. | ||||||||||
Warn before sending files insecurely | Select to show a warning if files will be sent unencrypted. | ||||||||||
Use Kerberos v5 for authentication | If your Jabber network uses Kerberos for security, select this checkbox. | ||||||||||
Use Default Settings | Click to revert to default server settings. |
