How to use Find Lost Item
With Find Lost Item, you can view a temporary link that shows the approximate location of a lost AirTag or Find My network accessory. The link allows others with an Apple Account, such as a family member or friend, or Apple Partners, such as registered airlines, to see details about the lost item — making it easier to locate the item on the owner’s behalf.
In order to use Find Lost Item, the item owner needs to create a Share Item Location link in the Find My app on their iPhone with iOS 18.2 or later, iPad with iPadOS 18.2 or later, or Mac with macOS Sequoia 15.2 or later. To access a link that someone sends you, you need to have an Apple Account or be a registered Apple Partner.
Find Lost Item is not available in all countries and regions.
How to access a Find Lost Item link
There are a few ways you might receive a link to a lost item. A link can be sent to you using AirDrop, Mail, Messages, and other supported apps. It might be helpful to ask the person how they plan to send you the link so you know where to look for it.
Tap or click the link that was sent to you. If you open the link on a computer, the link goes to find.apple.com. In iOS 26 or iPadOS 26, if you open the link on an iPhone or iPad with the Find My app installed, the link will open in the Find My app.
Select Apple Account or Apple Partner, then sign in.
For Apple Partners, enter your work email address. If registered with Apple, a Verification Code will be sent to you via email. You need to enter this code in order to sign in and gain access to the link for the lost item.
When you’re signed in, you’ll see the most recent location of the lost item on the webpage or in the Find My app, as well as details like the phone number or email address of the Apple Account the item is registered to, the item serial number, and more.
If the link opened in the Find My app, you can tap Play Sound or Find to help you locate the device or item. In iOS 26, if your AirTag is within Bluetooth range, you can tap Find Nearby to use Precision Finding to help locate the AirTag. Find Nearby is supported on iPhone models with Ultra Wideband.
The Share Item Location link will expire after seven days, when the owner is reunited with item, or if the owner decides to stop sharing. If you need access to the link for a longer duration of time, you need to ask the item owner to create a new link and send it to you again.
