MacBook Air (15-inch, M3, 2024) Left Speaker

Before You Begin

 Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)

  • Torx Plus 3IP 44 mm half-moon bit

  • Torx Plus 4IP 25 mm bit

  • Torx T6 security bit

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

 Caution

This procedure requires System Configuration. After you've completed all removal and reassembly steps, learn how to initiate the System Configuration process.

Important

If you install a replacement left speaker, you must also install a replacement right speaker.

Removal

  1. Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-08925) from the left speaker connector cowling. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

  2. Use the black stick to lift the end of the left speaker flex cable off the connector.

  3. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to remove two 4IP screws from the left speaker.

    • Important: The two screws are different. Note the position for reassembly.

    • 923-09234 (2)

  4. Use the adjustable torque driver and T6 security bit to remove one T6 screw (923-09232) from the left speaker.

  5. Use the flat end of the black stick to tilt up the corner of the left speaker (1).

    •  Caution: Ensure that the left speaker flex cable is disconnected (2).

  6. Use the black stick to guide the left speaker flex cable out from under the antenna (1) as you slide the left speaker to the right (2). Remove the left speaker from the top case.

    •  Caution: Don’t allow the end of the left speaker flex cable (1) to catch on the logic board as you remove the speaker.

Reassembly

  1. Use the black stick to guide the left speaker flex cable (1) under the antenna as shown. Then lower the left speaker into the top case (2).

  2. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 16 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and T6 security bit to reinstall the T6 screw (923-09232) into the left speaker.

  3. Set the torque value on the adjustable torque driver to 19 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to reinstall one 4IP screw (923-10463) into the left speaker.

  4. Set the torque value on the adjustable torque driver to 11.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to reinstall one 4IP screw (923-09234) into the left speaker.

  5. Press the end of the left speaker flex cable to the connector.

  6. Position the left speaker connector cowling over the end of flex cable. Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-08925) into the left speaker connector cowling.
