View class, Handout, and student progress in Schoolwork
If your school enables the student progress feature in Apple School Manager and students complete activities you assigned in a Handout, all available progress data is shared with you.
Progress data doesn’t appear instantaneously. Schoolwork takes time to process data before displaying it in the My Classes view, Handout details view, and student progress view.
Note: Schoolwork displays thumbnails for files you share in a Handout. If a student hasn’t launched Schoolwork or hasn’t submitted any work yet, Schoolwork displays a placeholder thumbnail or no thumbnail at all.
View class progress
The My Classes view in the Students tab displays students across all your classes with incomplete activities past Handout due dates.
In the Schoolwork app
, tap
Students in the bottom tab.
To focus on a specific class, tap a class at the top of the Students tab.
View Handout progress
The Handout details view displays how students are progressing with the activities in the selected Handout.
In the Schoolwork app
, tap
Handouts in the bottom tab.
In the sidebar, tap Recents or a class, then tap the Handout you want to view.
Schoolwork displays the Handout details view, including all previously assigned activities and progress data.
Tap a student row to view the student’s detailed progress data for the activity, submitted before or after the due date.
The student progress percentage is a combined value across all of a student’s attempts before a due date. The time value is cumulative across all of a student’s attempts before a due date. If data is a count, score, or some other value, it’s from a student’s last attempt.
Note: If Allow Notifications is selected for Schoolwork (Go to Settings > Notifications > Schoolwork, then tap Allow Notifications), at 8:00 a.m. local time every day, Schoolwork sends you a notification with a summary of past due and ready-to-review Handout activities. Tap anywhere in the notification to open the Handout details view, then view the activities. If the notification refers to more than one Handout, tap the notification to open Schoolwork, then tap a Handout.
View student progress
The student progress view provides an overview of how an individual student is doing for all activities across all Handouts and classes.
You can use the My Classes filter to focus on a specific class or, to see how the selected student is doing on a specific Handout, tap View Handout.
In the Schoolwork app
, tap
Students in the bottom tab.
In the sidebar, tap the student whose progress data you want to view.
To see details for a specific activity, tap the activity, then use the details to personalize instruction based on student needs.

Note: When you view student progress in the Handout details view, if progress reporting is not enabled for a student, Schoolwork displays progress as N/A for any progress-reporting app activities and includes a message in the student pop-up pane. Students with progress reporting disabled should still mark an activity done when they complete the activity.
View late progress data
When a student submits work after a Handout due date, Schoolwork displays the progress data but indicates the work was late.
Note: For apps that report time and progress percentage, late data includes the progress students made across all their attempts before and after the due date.
