A template is a model spreadsheet you can use as a starting point for your own spreadsheet. Templates are designed for some of the more common types of spreadsheets (such as personal budgets, invoices, or school schedules) and use coordinated fonts, colors, and graphic elements for a unified look.

Most templates also include placeholder text, charts, or other objects that you can replace with your own content. Placeholders make it easy to add your own content without having to format it. For example, you can delete placeholders, add more images, text boxes, or other objects, and change template elements (such as their style). You can also add additional sheets.

Note: You can’t switch to a different template after you begin creating your spreadsheet.
