Mac mini (2024) Fan

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torx Plus 3IP 25 mm bit

  • Torx Plus 5IP 50 mm bit

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Removal

  1. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to remove the two 5IP screws (923-11041) from the fan.

  2. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-11042) from the fan.

    • Note: The two 3IP screws are installed at an angle.

  3. Gently lift the fan out of the housing and move it to the left to expose the fan connector.

    • Caution: The fan flex cable is still connected to the logic board. Don't damage the fan flex cable as you lift the fan out of the housing.

  4. Use ESD-safe tweezers to peel back the polyester film tape on the end of the fan flex cable.

  5. Use the flat end of the black stick to flip up the locking lever on the end of the connector.

  6. Use ESD-safe tweezers to slide the end of the fan flex cable out of the connector.

    •  Caution: Don’t touch any of the small parts on the logic board. Keep the tweezers parallel to the logic board to prevent damage.

  7. Remove the fan from the housing.

Reassembly

Caution: Ensure that the antenna connector board flex cable doesn't get caught under the fan during reassembly.

  1. Use ESD-safe tweezers to slide the end of the fan flex cable into the connector.

    • Caution: Don’t touch any of the small parts on the logic board. Keep the tweezers parallel to the logic board to prevent damage.

  2. Use the flat end of the black stick to flip down the locking lever on the connector.

  3. Press the polyester film tape over the end of the fan flex cable.

  4. Lower the fan into the housing.

    •  Caution: Ensure that the antenna connector board flex cable outlined in green isn't trapped under the fan.

  5. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 12 Ncm.

  6. Use the adjustable torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-11042) into the fan.

    • Note: The two 3IP screws are installed at an angle.

  7. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 19.5 Ncm.

  8. Use the adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to reinstall the two 5IP screws (923-11041) into the fan.

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
