Change General settings in FaceTime on Mac
In the FaceTime app on your Mac, use General settings to change default options for using FaceTime.
To change these settings, make sure you’re signed in to your Apple Account, choose FaceTime > Settings, then click General.

Sign Out | Stop receiving FaceTime calls or phone calls on your Mac. You need to sign in again to use FaceTime. See Sign in to or out of FaceTime. Note: Instead of signing out of FaceTime, you can change or turn off notifications to prevent notifications from disturbing you. | ||||||||||
You can be reached for FaceTime at | Choose the email addresses and phone numbers that other people can use to call you in FaceTime. You can update this list on the Apple Account website. See Choose how people can call you in FaceTime. | ||||||||||
Calls from iPhone | Allow your Mac to use your iPhone to make and receive phone calls. This option only appears when you set up your iPhone and Mac for phone calls. | ||||||||||
Upgrade to Wi-Fi Calling | Allow your Mac to use the cellular account for your iPhone to make and receive phone calls in FaceTime, even if your iPhone isn’t nearby. This option only appears when your carrier supports Wi-Fi calling and you select Calls from iPhone. | ||||||||||
Update Emergency Address | Update your address to help emergency services locate you if you make an emergency call that uses Wi-Fi instead of cellular. This option only appears when you select Calls from iPhone and upgrade to Wi-Fi calling. | ||||||||||

Automatic prominence while speaking | Allow the tile of the person speaking to become larger during a Group FaceTime call. | ||||||||||
Allow Live Photos to be captured during Video calls | Allow you and other participants to capture a Live Photo during a FaceTime video call. See Take a Live Photo. | ||||||||||
Live Captions | Have conversations transcribed on the screen. See Turn on Live Captions. | ||||||||||
Start new calls from | Choose which email address or phone number others see when you call them. This option only appears if you have more than one email address or phone number set up. | ||||||||||
Ringtone | Choose the sound that is played when you receive a call. See Change FaceTime ringtones. | ||||||||||
Location | Change the country or region that your FaceTime account is registered as being in to ensure your calls use the correct telephone number format. | ||||||||||
Default for calls | Choose the default app to start calls from. This also includes calls started from URLs in a telephone format. This option only appears if you have more than one calling app on your Mac. | ||||||||||
