If you can’t access licenses in Apple Configurator
Learn what to do if you can't access your licenses after you've migrated to Apps and Books in Apple School Manager.
Revoke all assigned licenses
Open Apple Configurator.
Choose Account.
Select Sign In, then sign in to the App Store using your managed Apple Account.
Choose Window, then select VPP Assignments.
Click the triangle next to an app to view the serial number of the devices the app is assigned to.
Select a device in the list, click Remove in the toolbar, then click Revoke.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 to revoke licenses from any other apps.
Transfer your legacy licenses
After you've revoked all assigned licenses, follow these steps.
Sign in to Apple School Manager.
Click Settings, then click Apps and Books.
Transfer any legacy licenses.
Create a new location for Apple Configurator
After you've transferred your legacy licenses, follow these steps.
Click Locations.
Click Add New Location.*
Enter the new location information, then click Save. Only Apple Configurator will use this location.
Create a new Content Manager
After you've created a new location, follow these steps.
Click Accounts.
Click Add New Account.*
Enter the account details, select Content Manager as the manager role, then select the new location for Apple Configurator.
Click Save Person.
Click Create Sign-In, gather the name and password, then sign out.
Purchase free licenses on the new location
After you've created a new Content Manager, follow these steps.
Sign in to Apple School Manager using the new Content Manager account.
Click Apps and Books.
Select Get Started and transfer licenses to the new location if prompted.
Search for a free app that you want to deploy.
Select the app from the search results.
Choose the Apple Configurator location you created.
Enter a quantity, then click Get.
After the licenses show available, sign in to Apple Configurator.
Sign in to Apple Configurator
After you get the free licenses on the new location, follow these steps:
Open Apple Configurator.
Choose Account.
Select Sign In, then sign in using the new Content Manager account.
Choose Window.
Select Volume Purchasing Assignments, then verify the licenses are listed.
After you complete these steps, you can transfer licenses to the new Apple Configurator location while signed in using a Content Manager account.
