Start and submit activities in Schoolwork
Activities are the tasks your teacher assigns to you as part of a Handout. For example, your teacher might send you and your entire class a Handout with instructions to watch an attached movie, submit an essay or complete a task in an app that provides student progress.
If your school enabled the student progress feature and you work on an activity your teacher assigned in a Handout, all available progress data is shared with you and your teacher. The progress-reporting app automatically sends information about how you are doing as you work on the activity in the app (for example, time spent on the activity, the percentage completed, quiz scores, hints used or points earned). The data available depends on the type of activity, and is defined by the app developer. At a minimum, every progress-reporting app sends time spent data. For other activities (for example, a link or PDF), you and your teacher only see whether or not you marked the activity as done. When your teacher requests a hand-in activity or gives you a copy of a file to work on, you and your teacher see whether or not you submitted a hand-in activity or worked on the file.
Start and submit an activity
In the Schoolwork app
, do one of the following in the sidebar:
Tap Recents, then tap a Handout.
Tap a class, tap Due, then tap a Handout in Due Today or Due Next.
Do one of the following:
For a progress-reporting app activity, tap Start.
For other activities, tap Open.
Schoolwork opens the activity in the location your teacher specified.
Work on your assigned activity, return to Schoolwork, then tap Mark Done.
Progress-reporting apps can also automatically mark an activity done. In this case, when you complete all activities in the app, Schoolwork displays a message confirming the progress-reporting app is marking the activity done.
When you finish all activities in a Handout, Schoolwork submits your work to your teacher and moves the Handout to the Done view. If you change your mind and decide you are not done with an activity, tap Mark Not Done.
Note: Schoolwork does not report progress when you do an activity outside of an assigned Handout. You can still mark the activity done, but if you finish the activity before your teacher assigns it in a Handout, Schoolwork does not report your progress data. For example, if your teacher assigns you a Handout activity to read Chapter 1 in a book and you read Chapter 2 as well, Schoolwork only reports your progress for Chapter 1. If your teacher later assigns you a new Handout activity to read Chapter 2, you can mark the activity done. However, unless you read Chapter 2 again, no progress data is reported for that chapter.
