Use FaceTime on your Mac

Learn how to use FaceTime to make video and audio calls from your Mac.

To use FaceTime on your Mac, here's what you need to do:

  • Connect to the Internet.
  • Sign in to FaceTime with your Apple ID. 
  • Make sure that you have a built-in or connected microphone for FaceTime audio calls and a built-in or connected camera for FaceTime video calls.

 

Turn on FaceTime

  1. Open the FaceTime app.
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID.

If you don’t want to receive FaceTime calls on your Mac, choose FaceTime > Turn FaceTime Off.

Make a FaceTime call

  1. Open the FaceTime app.
  2. In the search field, enter a name, phone number, or email of the person that you want to call.        Contacts search in FaceTime app 
  3. Place a call:
    • To make a FaceTime video call, click FaceTime video button.
    • To make a FaceTime audio call, click FaceTime audio button.
    • Use Siri. Click Siri button, in the upper-right of the menu bar, then say something like “FaceTime Lisa” or “FaceTime audio Lisa”.

          Incoming FaceTime call

Answer or decline a FaceTime call

When someone calls you with FaceTime, a notification appears in the upper-right corner of your screen.

When a FaceTime call comes in:

  • Click Accept or Decline. If you click Down caret button, next to Decline, you can send an iMessage or set a reminder to call back later.
  • Use the Touch Bar to Accept or Decline a call.
