Add a user to HomePod mini or HomePod
- Make sure that the new user has their own iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and their own Apple ID.
- Update your HomePod mini or HomePod and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the latest software.
- Invite the new user to your home in the Home app.
HomePod mini and HomePod support up to six users in a home. If you have more than six household users or guests in your home, they can still use Siri on HomePod to play music, set timers and alarms, or ask Siri for the weather, news, and more. If guests use Siri to play music, it will play from the primary user's account and that person's taste profile won't be affected.
To let Siri recognize who in the family is speaking, manage their calendar, make phone calls, play their own music, and more, turn on the following settings:
- Go to Settings > Siri & Search. Turn on Listen for "Hey Siri."1
- Go to Settings > [your name] > Find My, then turn on Share My Location. Set My Location to This Device.
- Open the Home app, tap Home in the upper-left corner, then select Home Settings. Tap your user profile under People, and turn on:
- Recognize My Voice:2 Allows Siri to know your name, access your music library, playlists, Apple Music account and other music streaming services, use Find My, and control secure HomeKit accessories from HomePod.
- Personal Requests: Lets you use HomePod to send and read messages, make phone calls, check your calendar, add reminders, create notes, and run Siri Shortcuts on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. HomePod might require authentication for some requests and will send a notification to your iPhone to authenticate the task. If you have more than one HomePod in your home, you can turn Personal Requests on or off for each HomePod.
To personalize your HomePod experience even more, turn these settings on:
- Update Listening History: Select your music service, then turn on Update Listening History to add the music you play to your Apple Music taste profile so Siri can suggest and play songs that you'll love.
- Control Accessories Remotely: Allows users to remotely control HomeKit accessories and receive accessory notifications when users are away from the home.

Recognize My Voice is available in: English (US, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, UK), Italian (Italy, Switzerland), Spanish (US, Mexico, Spain), French (Belgium, Canada, France, Switzerland), German (Austria, Germany, Switzerland), and Dutch (Belgium, the Netherlands). To use Recognize My Voice, make sure that your iOS or iPadOS device and HomePod are set to the same language.
If Siri doesn't recognize you
Siri might ask you who you are from time to time. You can respond with your name, or you can even begin a request by saying "Hey Siri, this is [your name]" or "Hey Siri, who am I?" If Siri calls you the wrong name, say "No, this is [your name]." Siri calls you by the name that you have set in your My Card. If you have the same name as someone else sharing your HomePod, you can change the name in your My Card to a nickname.
If Siri doesn't recognize you after setup, try these steps. After each step, see if Siri recognizes you.
- Reset Recognize My Voice: In the Home app, tap Home in the upper-left corner, then tap Home Settings. Tap your name under People, then turn Recognize My Voice off then on. Wait a few minutes before trying Siri again.
- Restart the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that you use with "Hey Siri."
- Restart your HomePod mini or HomePod.
- Set up "Hey Siri" again: On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Siri & Search, then turn Listen for "Hey Siri" off then on, and follow onscreen instructions to teach Siri your voice.
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Siri & Search, and make sure that it's set to the same language as your HomePod.
If you have two Apple IDs in your home that have "Hey Siri" set up with the same voice, you might need to turn off Recognize My Voice on one account.
