Import contacts from your SIM card to your iPhone

If your SIM card supports it, you can import SIM contacts to your iPhone. Find out how.

Import contacts stored on a SIM card

  1. Insert your previous SIM card (the one that your contacts are stored on) into your iPhone. Make sure that the SIM card fits.

  2. Tap Settings > Contacts > Import SIM Contacts.

  3. If asked, choose where you want to import your SIM card contacts to.

  4. Wait for the import process to finish.

  5. Open Contacts and make sure that your contacts have been imported.* If needed, you can replace the SIM card you just imported from with your newer SIM card.

Your iPhone doesn't store contacts on the SIM card. If you want to transfer contacts between iPhone devices, you can use iCloud to back up or transfer content between devices.
