Use Unified layout in the Phone app on iPhone

When you update to iOS 26 or later, the Phone app includes a Unified view.

Choose between Unified layout and Classic layout

  1. Open the Phone app.

  2. Tap the Calls tab (in the Unified layout) or the Recents tab (in the Classic layout) at the bottom of your screen.

  3. Tap the Filter button in the upper-right corner.

Do more with the Calls tab

In the Unified layout, the Calls tab shows your favorite contacts and a chronological list of calls and voicemails.

Quickly access these features without switching Phone tabs:

Favorites

  • Up to eight favorite contacts appear at the top. If you have more than eight, tap Show All to see a list.

  • Tap to contact. The icon next to their name shows how you'll contact them.

  • Touch and hold a favorite contact to drag them to a different spot or to see all of their contact options.

  • To add a favorite contact, tap Edit, tap Edit Favorites, and tap the plus button in the upper-right corner. Then tap a contact and favorite them for messaging, calling, video calling, or emailing. You can repeat this with the same contact for multiple favorite options.

  • To remove a favorite contact, tap Edit, tap Edit Favorites, then tap its minus button.

Recents

  • Tap a contact’s name or photo to see their contact information.

  • Tap the phone button next to a contact or number to call them.

  • Touch and hold a call for more options, including deleting it from the list. If the call is from an unknown number, you can also add the number to an existing contact or create a new contact.

The Search button searches calls, voicemails, and contacts, and is at the far right of the bottom tabs.

See missed calls, voicemails, unknown callers, and more

  1. Open the Phone app.

  2. Tap the Calls tab at the bottom of your screen.

  3. Tap the Filter button in the upper-right corner.

  4. Tap the type of calls you want to filter by:

    • Missed (audio calls that weren't answered)

    • Voicemails (voicemails from other callers)

    • Unknown Callers (missed calls and voicemails from unknown numbers)

After choosing a filter, you can return to the default Unified view by reopening the filter menu and tapping Calls.

Additional filters, such as Spam, depend on your carrier. Tap Manage Filtering at the bottom of the menu to view your options.
