About activities in Schoolwork
Activities are the tasks your teacher assigns to you as part of a Handout. For example, your teacher might send you and your entire class a Handout with instructions to watch an attached movie, submit an essay, or complete a task in an app that provides student progress.
You submit your work in response to an activity your teacher assigned in a Handout. You can submit work within Schoolwork, or you can use the Share button to submit from another app. You can submit items such as app files, collaborative files, spreadsheets, PDFs, photos, or videos. For example, in Keynote for iPadOS, you can create a file, tap the More button, tap the Share button, tap Schoolwork, then select your class and Handout to submit the file.
When your teacher shares a collaborative file in a Handout, you and your teacher can work in the same file at the same time. Depending on the file type, your teacher can view and edit the file while you are working in it, and add comments to provide real-time feedback and guide you along the way. When your teacher shares a non-collaborative file, your teachers and you can work in the same file but not at the same time. For example, your teacher can mark up a PDF file and you can see their comments later.
When completing activities and submitting work, keep the following in mind:
When you submit all activities for a Handout, Schoolwork moves the Handout from your Due view to your Done view.
If you complete an activity or submit work after a Handout due date (11:59 p.m. local time on the due date), Schoolwork displays your progress data but indicates the work was late.
When your teacher marks a Handout complete, Schoolwork moves the Handout from your Due view to your Done view. When a Handout is complete, progress reporting stops and you can no longer submit work, replace work, or make any more changes to the Handout. Schoolwork saves copies of your work in iCloud Drive, but your teacher can no longer view any updates. When you view a completed Handout, you can see all progress data up until the completion date.
When editing a shared file, confirm all your changes are saved. Schoolwork might overwrite changes if another student or teacher edits a file your teacher shared with you and other students at the same time you edit the file.
Tip: You need an Internet connection to submit work to a Handout request. If your Internet connection is interrupted, you can continue working but can’t submit your work. Once a connection is re-established, you can submit your work to the Handout request.
