Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove 10 crosshead screws from the USB-C connector. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Caution: Four of the screws are on the vertical edges of the enclosure. Ensure that the torque driver and bit are as parallel to the enclosure as possible to avoid stripping the screws.

  2. Use a torque driver and the trilobe bit to remove one trilobe screw from the USB-C connector. Then complete the entire step before continuing to reassembly.

    • Lift the ends of the two stacked USB-C connector flex cables from the connectors.

    • Gently separate the USB-C connector from the enclosure.

    • Gently separate the microphone (attached to the USB-C connector) from the sidewall of the enclosure.

    • Break the adhesive bond between the USB-C connector and the enclosure. Then remove the USB-C connector from the enclosure.

Reassembly

  1. Use the ESD-safe tweezers to remove the USB-C connector adhesive gasket and all residual adhesive from the enclosure.

  2. Use an ethanol wipe or IPA wipe to clean the opening and remove any remaining adhesive from the enclosure.

  3. If you’re installing a replacement USB-C connector, use the ESD-safe tweezers to peel three of the four adhesive liners (1, 3, and 4) from the replacement part.

    • Important: Don’t peel the adhesive liner (2) yet.

  4. Position the USB-C connector in the enclosure without pressing it into place. Insert a USB-C charge cable into the port to ensure proper alignment of the USB-C connector.

    • Ensure that all the screw holes are aligned. Then firmly press the USB-C connector for 20 seconds to adhere it to the enclosure.

  5. Use the teal torque driver and long crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-13714) into the USB-C connector.

  6. Peel the adhesive liner (1) from the microphone. Then firmly press the microphone (2) to adhere it to the sidewall of the enclosure.

  7. Route the USB-C connector flex cables along the sidewall of the enclosure. Press the ends of the two stacked flex cables (1, 2) to their connectors.

  8. Press along the length of the USB-C connector to fully adhere it to the enclosure.

  9. Use the teal torque driver and crosshead bit to install three new crosshead screws.

    • 923-13727 (1, 2)

    • 923-13714 (3)

  10. Use the blue torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-13718).

  11. Use the gray torque driver and crosshead bit to install four new crosshead screws.

    • 923-13736 (1, 2)

    • 923-13713 (3)

    • 923-13719 (4)

  12. Use the black torque driver and trilobe bit to install one new trilobe screw (923-13730).
