S/MIME (Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions), built into macOS, iOS, iPadOS and Mail, lets you send and receive secure email messages. Using certificates, S/MIME allows a sender to encrypt and send a mail message that can only be decrypted once it’s in the hands of the receiver.
