Activation Lock

Activation Lock helps prevent anyone else from using your device if it’s ever lost or stolen. When you set up Find My on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or Apple Watch, Activation Lock is turned on automatically.

With Activation Lock, your Apple ID and password are required before anyone can do the following:

  • Turn off Find My on your device

  • Sign out of iCloud on your device

  • Erase your device

  • Reactivate your device after it’s been erased

For more details about Activation Lock, see the Apple Support articles Activation Lock for Mac, Activation Lock for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and About Activation Lock on your Apple Watch.

Note: If your device has multiple users, Activation Lock is turned on only for the first person who sets up Find My. That person’s Apple ID and password are required to turn off Find My, sign out or remotely erase your device.
