Final Cut Pro 10.3 included fundamental changes to libraries. To work with libraries created in Final Cut Pro X 10.1 – 10.2.3, you can update existing libraries when you first open Final Cut Pro 10.3 or later, or you can update them later.
Libraries updated for Final Cut Pro X 10.3 or later aren't compatible with earlier versions of Final Cut Pro X. Projects and events from Final Cut Pro X 10.0.9 and earlier cannot be updated for Final Cut Pro X 10.3 or later. Back up your files before you update. You should complete any active projects before you update.
Before you update
Before you update Final Cut Pro X, backup your current copy of the Final Cut Pro application and your existing libraries. This allows you to move your files to another Mac and to continue working on these projects in the earlier version of Final Cut Pro, if necessary.
Updating libraries might also affect the sound mixes of projects within an updated library. You might have to make adjustments after updating. You should also complete any active projects before you update.
Update your libraries
To update your Final Cut Pro 10.1 – 10.2.3 libraries, do one of the following:
- Open Final Cut Pro X after updating the application. Final Cut Pro X opens the libraries you had open previously, and prompts you to update them.
- Choose File > Open, navigate to the Final Cut Pro X library you would like to update.
- Double-click on the library that you’d like to update in the Finder on a computer with Final Cut Pro X 10.3 or later installed.
