Delete music in the Apple Music app

If you want to free up storage space on your device, find out how to remove music you’ve downloaded from the Apple Music catalogue or purchased from the iTunes Store.

How to delete music on your iPhone, iPad or Android device

  1. Open the Apple Music app.
  2. Touch and hold a song or album.
  3. Tap Remove, then tap Remove Download. Or tap Delete from Library.
    • Remove Download: if the song is downloaded, you can only remove the download from the device you’re using. If you’ve downloaded the music from the Apple Music catalogue, the music will still appear in your library but it can only be played when your device is connected to the internet.
    • Delete from Library: delete the music from your music library, including playlists. If you have Sync Library turned on, the music will also be deleted from all of your other devices.

How to delete music on your Mac

  1. Open the Apple Music app.
  2. In the sidebar, click Songs or Albums.
  3. Click More More button next to a song or click More More button over an album. Then choose from the following:
    • Remove Download: if the song is downloaded, you can only remove the download from your Mac. If you’ve downloaded the music from the Apple Music catalogue, the music will still appear in your library but it can only be played when your Mac is connected to the internet.
    • Delete from Library: delete the music from your music library, including playlists. If you have Sync Library turned on, the music will also be deleted from all of your other devices.

How to delete music in the Apple Music app for Windows on your PC

  1. Open the Apple Music app.
  2. In the sidebar, click Songs or Albums.
  3. Click More More button next to a song or click More More button over an album. Then choose from the following:
    • Remove Download: if the song is downloaded, you can only remove the download from your PC. If you’ve downloaded the music from the Apple Music catalogue, the music will still appear in your library but it can only be played when your PC is connected to the internet.
    • Delete from Library: delete the music from your music library, including playlists. If you have Sync Library turned on, the music will also be deleted from all of your other devices.

If you can't delete music

  • If you sync music from your computer to your device manually, music you’ve deleted may reappear the next time you sync your device with your computer. Find out how to manage music that you sync from your computer to your device.
  • If you’ve downloaded music from the Apple Music catalogue and choose Remove Download, the music will still appear in your library but it can only be played when your device is connected to the internet.
