Turn the torch on or off on your iPhone or iPad Pro

The LED flash on your iPhone or iPad Pro doubles as a torch, so you can get extra light when you need it.

There are a few ways you can turn your torch on or off:

Ask Siri

Here are a few examples of how you can use Siri to turn on your torch:

  • "Hey Siri, turn on my torch."

  • "Hey Siri, can you turn on my torch?"

  • "Hey Siri, turn off my torch."

Use Control Centre to turn the torch on or off

  1. Swipe down from the top right-hand corner to open Control Centre on your iPhone or iPad. On an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom to open Control Centre.

  2. Tap the Torch buttonTorch icon.

    Access the torch in Control Centre on iOS 18.
  3. To turn off the torch, tap the Torch buttonTorch icon again.

If you can’t see the Torch buttonTorch icon when you open Control Centre, you can change your settings to add it. Go to Settings > Control Centre, then tap Torch in the list of available controls.

You can also turn on the torch from the Lock Screen by pressing and holding the Torch buttonTorch icon in the bottom left-hand corner.

Use the Action button to turn the torch on or off

  1. In the Settings app, tap Action Button.

  2. Swipe to the Torch icon.

    On an iPhone with the Action button, you can assign the torch to that button.
  3. Press and hold the Action button to turn the torch on or off.

The Action button is only available on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Change the brightness of the torch

  1. On an iPhone with Face ID or an iPad, swipe down from the top right-hand corner to open Control Centre. Or on an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to open Control Centre.

  2. Press and hold the Torch buttonTorch icon.

  3. Drag the slider up or down.

Change the size of your torch beam with Dynamic Island in iOS 18

  1. Turn on your torch.

  2. Tap the Dynamic Island.

  3. Touch and hold the Light icon, then drag it to change the width and length of your torch beam.

    With the Dynamic Island, you can widen the beam of your torch in iOS 18.

The Dynamic Island is available on iPhone 14 Pro and later Pro models.
