Change Advanced settings in Safari on Mac
In the Safari app on your Mac, use Advanced settings to increase accessibility, specify a style sheet, change the default encoding and show features for web developers.
To change these settings, choose Safari > Settings, then click Advanced.

Show full website address | Have the Smart Search field show the full address of the website you’re viewing instead of just the domain name. For example, www.apple.com/uk/safari/ instead of apple.com. | ||||||||||
Never use font sizes smaller than | Set a minimum font size for text in web pages (doesn’t affect text in images). If you’re unsure what to choose, try 12 or 14. This option may change the appearance of some web pages. | ||||||||||
Press Tab to highlight each item on a web page | Move around a web page to highlight links and buttons without using the mouse. | ||||||||||
Show colour in compact tab bar | Use the background colour from the active webpage as the background colour of the tab bar. See Change Tabs settings in Safari. | ||||||||||
Use advanced tracking and fingerprinting protection | Use advanced privacy tracking for Private Browsing or all browsing. | ||||||||||
Allow websites to check for Apple Pay and Apple Card | When you visit a website that uses Apple Pay, the website can check if you have Apple Pay enabled on that device. If you’re using a Mac to which a card cannot be added, the website can check if you have Apple Pay set up on an iPhone or Apple Watch. Apple websites and apps can also check to see if you have Apple Card. You can stop websites you visit from checking if Apple Pay is enabled or Apple websites from checking if you have Apple Card on your Mac at any time by going to Safari > Settings > Advanced and deselecting Allow websites to check for Apple Pay and Apple Card. This option appears if you have either of the following:
If you allow websites to check if Apple Pay is set up, one of two things can happen:

Allow privacy-preserving measurement of ad effectiveness | Let advertisers measure how they’re doing without associating ad activity with you. | ||||||||||
Block all cookies | Prevent any websites, third parties or advertisers from storing cookies and other data on your Mac. This may prevent some websites from working properly. Allow Highlights to share web addresses with Apple | You can help Apple improve the quality and performance of its products and services. The information is sent only with your consent and is submitted anonymously to Apple. | ||||||||||
Save articles for offline reading automatically | Keep the web pages in your Reading List available for times when you’re not connected to the Internet. | ||||||||||
Style sheet | Use your own CSS instead of web page style sheets. Click the pop-up menu, then choose Other. | ||||||||||
Default encoding | Use an encoding appropriate for the language of the web pages you view most often. This option is useful if web pages appear garbled. To change the encoding for a specific web page, view the web page in Safari, then choose View > Text Encoding. | ||||||||||
Proxies | Adjust settings related to accessing the Internet through a firewall. | ||||||||||
Show features for web developers | Access tools for developing websites with Safari. Show the Develop menu in the menu bar and show Developer and Feature Flags settings in Safari Settings. |
