Ask Siri

Note: You must be connected to the internet to use Siri.

Before you can ask Siri to do something, you need to activate it. On your Mac, do any of the following:

  • Press and hold the Microphone key in the row of function keys on your keyboard. If this key isn’t available, use the keyboard shortcut specified in Siri settings.

  • Click Siri or Siri AI in the menu bar. If an icon isn’t shown, you can add it using Menu Bar settings.

  • Say “Hey Siri” or “Siri” (if this option is available and turned on in Siri settings). To check whether “Hey Siri” or “Siri” is available for your device and language, see the macOS Feature Availability website.

If you have Siri AI (Beta),* you can also activate Siri by doing one of the following:

  • Press Command-Space bar on your keyboard to ask Siri a question in Spotlight.

  • Control-click on something you’ve selected on your screen, then choose Ask Siri (or another option that appears).

  • Press Command-Shift-Space to select a window or Command-Shift-6 to select a portion of your screen.

Siri AI is available in beta on macOS 27 or later on an Apple Intelligence-enabled MacBook Neo (A18 Pro) or Mac model with M1 or later with Siri and device language set to a supported language. Available in English to start. Usage limits may apply.
