What’s new in firmware updates for Apple Pro Display XDR

Learn about changes and features included in firmware updates to Pro Display XDR.

Display Firmware 4.2.37

  • Addresses an issue where in-field calibration settings are not applied when using Pro Display XDR Calibrator.

Requires macOS 10.15.6 or later.

Display Firmware 4.2.30

  • Adds support for in-field recalibration of the display using Pro Display XDR Calibrator. Enables specific color workflows that may require custom calibration by an in-house spectroradiometer. Learn more
  • Minor stability improvements.

Requires macOS 10.15.6 or later.

Display Firmware 3.3.23

  • Adds controls to fine tune the current calibration of Pro Display XDR by adjusting the white point and luminance to more precisely match your own in-house display calibration target. Learn more

Display Firmware 2.2.2

Check the firmware version

To check the firmware version of your Pro Display XDR, press and hold the Option key on your keyboard while choosing Apple menu  > System Information from the menu bar, then click Graphics/Displays. In the Pro Display XDR section, the firmware version is listed next to Display Firmware Version.

Update the firmware

After you install the macOS version required by the firmware update, your Mac downloads the update within 24 hours. When your Mac is ready to install the firmware update, you may be prompted to restart to apply the update, and your screen might be black for a few minutes during installation.

If you select Not Now in the update prompt or notice that reference modes are missing from the presets menu, you might need to reconnect your display to power. Make sure that you're logged in to a user account in macOS, disconnect your display from power for 30 seconds, then reconnect your display to power. 

Check your settings

For the firmware update to download, turn on these settings:

  • In macOS Ventura or later, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click Software Update on the right. Click the info button  next to Automatic Updates, then make sure that “Install Security Responses and System files” and “Install macOS updates” are turned on.
  • In earlier versions of macOS, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Software Update. Click Advanced, then make sure that “Install system data files and security updates” and “Install macOS updates” are selected.
