iPhone Air Auxiliary Microphone
Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
Tools
- Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm) 
- Crosshead 44 mm half-moon bit 
- ESD-safe tweezers 
- Nylon probe (black stick) 
- Super screw 50 mm bit 
- Torque driver (gray, 0.55 kgf cm) 
- Torque driver (orange, 0.85 kgf cm) 
- Torque driver (teal, 0.75 kgf cm) 
- Trilobe 44 mm half-moon bit

                                        Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Important
Complete back glass removal steps 1 through 3. Then continue to step 1.
- Use a torque driver and the trilobe bit to remove the six trilobe screws.  
- Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove the nine crosshead screws. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.  - Remove the logic board cowling and the back glass cowling. Save the cowlings for reassembly.  
- Lift the end of the battery flex cable (1) off the connector. - Caution: You must disconnect the battery flex cable first to ensure that the iPhone stays turned off. 
 
- Lift the ends of the back glass flex cable (2) and the USB-C connector flex cable off the connectors (3).  
- Hold the back glass by the edges. Pull the tabs on the suction cups to release them from the back glass. Then set the back glass facedown on a clean, flat surface. 
 
- Remove the Taptic Engine cowling and the Taptic Engine chin cowling. Save the cowlings for reassembly. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.  - Use the black stick or adhesive cutter to separate the Taptic Engine flex cable from the USB-C connector flex cable.  
- Lift the ends of the Taptic Engine flex cable and the auxiliary microphone flex cable off the connectors.  
 
- Remove the battery. Then continue to step 5. 
- Remove the Taptic Engine.  
- Gently peel the USB-C connector flex cable off the enclosure. - Caution: Don't bend the flex cable more than 45 degrees.  
 
- Use a torque driver and super screw bit to remove one super screw. 
- Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove one crosshead screw.  - Remove the auxiliary microphone. 
- Important: The auxiliary microphone is held in place by strong adhesive. Pull the auxiliary microphone toward the top of the enclosure until the microphone separates from the adhesive. 
 
Reassembly

                                        - Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove all adhesive from the enclosure. Use an ethanol or IPA wipe to clean the enclosure. 
- Use ESD-safe tweezers to peel the protective liner from the adhesive on the auxiliary microphone. Then position the auxiliary microphone in the enclosure by aligning the screw holes. 
- Set the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 10 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and super screw bit to install one new super screw (923-13700) into the auxiliary microphone.  
- Use the teal torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-13974) into the auxiliary microphone.  
- Use the orange torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-13690) into the auxiliary microphone.  
- Use the gray torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-13976) into the auxiliary microphone.  
- Reposition the USB-C connector flex cable along the enclosure wall using the screw holes as a guide.  
- Press the end of the USB-C connector flex cable to the connector.  
- Use the gray torque driver and crosshead bit to install three new crosshead screws (923-13693) into the USB-C connector.  
- Press and hold the top of the auxiliary microphone for 15 seconds to adhere it to the enclosure.  
- Press the end of the auxiliary microphone flex cable to the connector.  
Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
