Mac Pro (2023) and Mac Pro (Rack, 2023) SSD Modules
Before You Begin
Remove the following part before you begin:
Mac Pro (2023)
Mac Pro (Rack, 2023)
Top cover and access door (access door only)
Tools
Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)
Compressed air
Torx T8 70 mm bit
Caution
This procedure requires System Configuration. After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, learn how to initiate the System Configuration process.
If you replace the SSD modules, you’ll need a separate Mac running the latest version of macOS or a separate Mac with Apple Configurator installed to restore the Mac before initiating the System Configuration process.
Removal
Identify the SSD module you want to remove. Slide the SSD module cover latch to the left (1) and pull the SSD module cover toward you (2) to remove it from the computer. Save the SSD module cover for reassembly.
Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and Torx T8 bit to remove the 8IP screw (923-03425) from the SSD module you want to remove.
Pull the SSD module straight out of the connector as shown.
- Caution: Don't tilt the SSD module when removing it from the connector. A damaged connector requires a logic board replacement.
Reassembly
Use compressed air to remove any debris from the connector.
Insert the SSD module marked 00 into the top connector. Insert the SSD module marked 01 into the bottom connector.
Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 29.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and Torx T8 bit to reinstall the 8IP screw (923-03425) into the SSD module you're reinstalling.
Slide the SSD module cover latch to the left (1). Position the SSD module cover over the opening. Then push the left edge of the SSD module cover to lock it into place (2).
Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:

Caution
After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, learn how to initiate the System Configuration process.
If you replaced the SSD modules, the computer won’t start up and the status indicator light will flash amber. Follow the instructions to restore the Mac. Then initiate the System Configuration process.
