Troubleshoot Japanese on Mac when input is slow

  • If you’re using a keyboard that’s connected to your computer with a cable (not a wireless keyboard), make sure the keyboard cable is correctly connected.

  • If you have another keyboard, try connecting it. If you can enter characters more quickly with the second keyboard, the original keyboard may not be working correctly.

  • On your Mac, do any of the following:

    • Make sure that the app lets you enter characters.

    • In the Keyboard Viewer, make sure the characters displayed correspond to the characters you press on the keyboard.

    • If you think that converting every character may be causing characters to display slowly or not at all, turn off Live Conversion. Instead, use traditional conversion.
