If your Apple Watch is lost or stolen

If your Apple Watch is missing, the Find My app can help you find it and protect your information.

Here's how it works

Find My can help you locate and protect your missing Apple Watch. If you already set up Find My on your paired iPhone, it's automatically set up on your Apple Watch and any Apple Watch that was paired using Apple Watch For Your Kids. And with Activation Lock, your Apple Account and password are required before anyone can erase your Apple Watch and use it with their iPhone.

Put your Apple Watch in Lost Mode

If your Apple Watch goes missing, you can immediately lock it using Lost Mode from iCloud.com/find or your paired iPhone. Then you can send a custom message that will appear your watch so that if someone finds it, they know how to contact you.

On the web

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com/find with your Apple Account.

  2. In the Devices menu, select your Apple Watch.

  3. Select Lost Watch.

  4. Select Next.

  5. Enter a phone number where you can be reached, then select Next.

  6. Enter a message that you want to appear on the watch screen, then select Activate.

On your device

  1. Open Find My, tap Devices, then select your Apple Watch.

  2. Under Lost Apple Watch, tap Lost Mode.

  3. Tap Continue.

  4. Enter a phone number where you can be reached, then tap Next.

  5. Enter a message that you want to show on the watch screen, then tap Next.

  6. Tap Activate.

Find My sends you an email message to confirm that you put your Apple Watch in Lost Mode. If your device is offline, the contact information you entered for Lost Mode will appear when your Apple Watch is back online.

Turn off or cancel Lost Mode

If you find your missing Apple Watch, tap Unlock on your watch, then enter your passcode. Lost Mode will automatically turn off, and you can start using your watch again as normal. You can also turn off Lost Mode from your paired iPhone or iCloud.com/find.

On the web

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com/find with your Apple Account.

  2. In the Devices menu, select your Apple Watch.

  3. Select Lost, select Stop Lost Mode, then select Continue to confirm.

On your device

  1. Open Find My, tap Devices, then select your Apple Watch.

  2. Tap Lost Mode.

  3. Tap Turn Off Lost Mode, then tap Turn Off to confirm.

Find your watch on a map

Sign in at iCloud.com/find or use the Find My app to find your watch on a map. If your watch is nearby, you can tap Play Sound to help you find it. Your watch rings until you tap Dismiss.

If you can't find your watch on the map, then it might not be connected to Wi-Fi, cellular, or your paired iPhone.

If your Apple Watch doesn't appear in Find My

Use these steps to help protect your information:

  1. Place your Apple Watch in Lost Mode, if you haven't already.

  2. Make sure that your Apple Account is secure by reviewing your Apple Account information. If you find changes that you don't recognize or didn't make, update that information and change your Apple Account password.

  3. Report your lost or stolen device to local law enforcement. Learn how to find your Apple Watch serial number if they request it.

Find My is the only way that you can track or locate a lost or missing device. If Find My isn't enabled on your watch before it goes missing, there is no other Apple service that can find, track, or otherwise flag your device for you.
