MacBook Pro (14-inch, M5 Pro or M5 Max) Fans

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)

  • Torx Plus 5IP 44 mm half-moon bit

  • Torx Plus 5IP 50 mm bit

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Important

This procedure requires screw covers (923-10114), which are included with a replacement part, but can also be ordered separately.

Note: The steps and images in this procedure show the removal and reinstallation of both fans. However, you can replace each fan individually.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 5IP 50 mm bit to remove the eight 5IP screws from the fans.

    • Six screws (923-14195) (1)

    • Two screws (923-13426) (2)

  2. Remove the fans from the top case.

Reassembly

  1. Position the fans in the top case. Align the screw holes in the fans with the screw holes in the top case.

  2. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 16 Ncm. Then use the adjustable torque driver and 5IP 50 mm bit to reinstall the two 5IP screws (923-13426) into the fans.

  3. Use the blue torque driver and 5IP 44 mm half-moon bit bit to reinstall the six 5IP screws (923-14195) into the fans.
