How to turn AutoMix or Crossfade on or off in the Apple Music app

Use AutoMix to seamlessly transition from one song to the next. You can also use Crossfade to fade in and out between songs. Learn how to turn AutoMix and Crossfade on or off.

Choose your transition style

You can choose how your music transitions between songs.

If you subscribe to Apple Music, you can use AutoMix¹ which dynamically transitions between Apple Music subscription content for a seamless listening experience.

Crossfade uses a set amount of seconds to fade songs in and out of your songs. You can adjust the amount of time it takes to transition between them. If you're not an Apple Music subscriber, Crossfade will be the only transition option in your Music settings and in the Apple Music app.²

You can also choose to have no transition between songs by turning Song Transitions off.

Choose your transition style on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Tap Apps > Music > Song Transitions.

3. Turn Song Transitions on and select AutoMix or Crossfade. If you don't want songs to transition, you can turn Song Transitions off. If you're not an Apple Music subscriber, AutoMix will be grayed out.

4. If you select Crossfade, you can drag the slider to set the amount of time it takes for the current song to fade out and the new song to fade in.

Choose your transition style on your Mac

1. Open the Apple Music app.

2. In the menu bar, choose Music > Settings.

3. Click the Playback tab and select Song Transitions.

4. Under Transition Style, choose AutoMix or Crossfade. If you don't want songs to transition, you can turn Song Transitions off. If you're not an Apple Music subscriber, AutoMix will be grayed out.

5. If you select Crossfade, you can drag the slider to set the amount of time it takes for the current song to fade out and the new song to fade in.

   

Use AutoMix on your Apple Device

If you subscribe to Apple Music, you can turn AutoMix on or off in the Apple Music app.

Turn AutoMix on or off on your iPhone

1. Open the Apple Music app.

2. Tap the MiniPlayer at the bottom of the screen.

3. Tap the Up Next button.

4. Tap the AutoMix button to turn it on or off.

   

Turn AutoMix on or off on your Mac, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro

1. Open the Apple Music app.

2. In the playback controls, click the Up Next button.

3. Click or tap the AutoMix button to turn it on or off.

AutoMix is only available on a Mac with Apple Silicon.

If your music isn't dynamically transitioning with AutoMix

AutoMix might determine that a transition isn't needed if:

• Your album is played in sequential order.

• The content is uploaded from your music library and unmatched.

• The genres or tempos are incompatible.

Use crossfade on your Apple Device

Turn Crossfade on or off int the Apple Music app.

1. Open the Apple Music app.

2. Tap the MiniPlayer at the bottom of the screen.

3. Tap Up Next.

4. Tap the Crossfade button to turn it on or off.
