display resolution

The resolution of a Mac computer’s built-in or connected display determines how big or small the windows, documents, icons, and other items appear on your screen.

By default, the resolution on your display is set to show the sharpest text and the most detailed images. While it’s best to use the automatically determined display resolution, you can manually set your display’s resolution if necessary. You choose resolution settings in the Display pane of Displays System Preferences.
