If the microphone on your iPod touch isn't working

If the sound is unclear during FaceTime calls, in video recordings or in apps, find out what to do.

Clear the microphone

  1. Remove any screen protectors, films or cases from your iPod touch.

  2. Clear any debris from the openings of your iPod touch.

If Siri can't hear you

  1. Open the Voice Memos app.

  2. Tap the Record buttonNo alt supplied for Image, speak at the back of your iPod touch, then stop the recording.

  3. When you play back the memo, you should hear your voice clearly.

  4. If you can’t hear your voice clearly, contact Apple Support.

If the microphone doesn't work in a specific app

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.

  2. Make sure the app is enabled.

  3. If the app has permission to access your microphone, or if it isn’t listed, contact the app developer.

FaceTime is not available in all countries or regions.
