Use a different Apple ID to share purchases with Family Sharing

Want to use a different Apple ID than the one you confirmed when you set up Family Sharing? No problem. Just follow these steps.

With purchase sharing, you'll confirm the Apple ID that you use to share iTunes, Apple Books, and App Store purchases with your family. Then your family members have access to all of the purchases associated with the account you confirm. If you want to use a different Apple ID than the one you selected when you enrolled, it’s easy to change from Family Sharing settings on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Tap Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing. On iOS 10.2 or earlier, tap Settings > iCloud > Family.
  2. Tap your name in the Family Members list.
  3. Tap your Apple ID.

When you change your Apple ID, you start sharing from the new account instead of your previous one. Your family members can't access or download purchases from your previous account. They also can't use any DRM-protected music, movies, TV shows, books, apps, or in-app purchases previously downloaded from that account. And if you purchased an Apple Music family subscription from your previous account, your family will no longer have access to that subscription.

You can change the Apple ID that you use to share with your Family Sharing group once every 90 days.
