How to use the torch on your iPhone, iPad Pro or iPod touch

The LED flash on your iPhone, iPad Pro or iPod touch doubles up as a torch, so you can get extra light when you need it.

There are a few ways to turn your torch on or off. You can ask Siri or you can use Control Centre on an iPhone with Face ID or an iPad Pro. Or use Control Centre on an iPhone with a Home button or an iPod touch.

Ask Siri

Here are a few examples of how you can use Siri to turn on your torch:

  • "Hey Siri, turn on my torch."
  • "Hey Siri, can you turn on my torch?" 
  • "Hey Siri, turn off my torch."

Use Control Centre on an iPhone with Face ID or an iPad Pro

  1. Swipe down from the top right-hand corner to open Control Centre
  2. Tap the Torch button Torch icon
  3. To turn off the torch, tap Torch icon again.

You can also turn on the torch from the Lock Screen by pressing and holding the Torch button Torch icon in the bottom left-hand corner.

Use Control Centre on an iPhone with a Home button or an iPod touch

  1. Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to open Control Centre
  2. Tap the Torch button Torch icon
  3. To turn off the torch, tap Torch icon again.

Change the brightness of the torch

  1. On an iPhone with Face ID or an iPad, swipe down from the top right-hand corner to open Control Centre. Or on an iPhone with a Home button or iPod touch, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to open Control Centre.
  2. Press and hold the Torch button Torch icon
  3. Drag the slider up or down.
