Add a Suica or PASMO card to Apple Wallet

Add a Suica or PASMO card to Apple Wallet on your iPhone or Apple Watch to take public transport and make purchases using Apple Pay.

To add a Suica or PASMO card to your iPhone or Apple Watch1, you'll need:

  • Suica or PASMO: an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus or later, or an Apple Watch Series 3 or later, with the latest version of iOS or watchOS.
  • Suica only: an iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus or Apple Watch Series 2 that was purchased in Japan.
  • An Apple ID that you use to sign in on your device, with two-factor authentication enabled.

To add a new Suica or PASMO card, you'll need an eligible payment card in Apple Wallet.

Add a Suica or PASMO card to Apple Wallet

You can add a new Suica or PASMO card on your iPhone or Apple Watch, or you can transfer your physical card to your device.

When you add your first Suica or PASMO card, Express Mode will be turned on automatically for that card, which allows you to pay for public transport and make purchases with just a tap.

How to add a new Suica or PASMO card on your iPhone or Apple Watch

  1. To add a card:
    • iPhone: open the Wallet app and tap the Add button Add button.
    • Apple Watch: on your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and tap the My Watch tab. Then scroll down, tap Wallet & Apple Pay and tap Add Card.
  2. Tap Travel Card.
  3. Choose the card you want to add.
  4. Tap Continue.
  5. Choose an amount to put on the card and tap Add.
  6. Follow the steps on the screen to confirm your purchase and add your Suica or PASMO card.

How to transfer a physical Suica or PASMO card to your iPhone or Apple Watch

You can transfer your physical Suica or PASMO card and its current balance to Apple Wallet.2 After the transfer has been completed, your physical card won't work and your deposit will be added to your Suica or PASMO balance in Apple Wallet.

  1. To add a card:
    • iPhone: open the Wallet app and tap the Add button Add button.
    • Apple Watch: on your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and tap the My Watch tab. Then scroll down, tap Wallet & Apple Pay and tap Add Card.
  2. Tap Travel Card.
  3. Choose the card you want to add and tap Continue.
  4. Tap Transfer Existing Card.
  5. Follow the steps on the screen to transfer your physical card. Verify the last four digits of the card number.

    Your date of birth is only required if you're adding a My Suica card, personalised PASMO card, or a Commuter PASMO or Suica card. Use the same date of birth that you entered when you purchased your plastic physical card. Tap Next.

  6. Place your card on a flat surface and rest the top of your iPhone on the card until Card Added appears on the screen. This process could take a few minutes to complete.

Move a Suica or PASMO card from your iPhone to your Apple Watch or a new iPhone

You can only have a Suica or PASMO card on one device at a time. But you can move your card between devices.

To move your Suica or PASMO card from your iPhone to your Apple Watch:

  1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  2. In the My Watch tab, scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
  3. Tap the Add button next to the card you want to move to your Apple Watch.

To move the card back to your iPhone, use the Apple Watch app: tap Wallet & Apple Pay, tap your card, then tap Add card to iPhone.

To move your Suica or PASMO card to a new iPhone:

  1. On your current iPhone, open the Wallet app and tap your Suica or PASMO card.
  2. Tap the More button More button, then tap Card Details.
  3. Scroll down and tap Remove this Card, then tap Remove to confirm.
  4. On your new iPhone, open the Wallet app and tap the Add button Add button.
  5. Tap Previous Cards and choose your Suica or PASMO card.
  6. Add your card to the new iPhone.

You can't move your Suica or PASMO card during a journey on public transport.

  1. Apple Pay isn't available for children under 13. Age varies by country or region.
  2. Make sure you sign in to iCloud on all of your devices. On your iOS device, you need to set up Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode. On your Apple Watch, you'll need to set up a passcode. If you remove your passcode or sign out of iCloud, all credit, pre-paid and Suica or PASMO cards will be removed from that device. When you remove a Suica or PASMO card from any device, the remaining balance will be stored and available to be transferred to the same or another iPhone or Apple Watch that is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
