If you get a message on your iPhone or iPad that your unlock passcode has expired

Your iOS or iPadOS device likely uses a mobile device management profile that requires you to change your passcode.

An iPhone with iOS 12 displays a prompt: “Your iPhone unlock passcode has expired”.

Mobile Device Management (MDM) is a set of software development tools used to securely and wirelessly configure Apple devices, whether they’re owned by the user or the organisation. MDM capabilities include updating software and device settings, monitoring compliance with organisational policies, and remotely wiping or locking devices.

If you get an alert on your iPhone or iPad that your unlock passcode has expired, this may be an MDM requirement.
