If you can't join a Shared Group
You may have to update your device or accept the group invitation in the Passwords app.
Shared Groups
Shared Groups offer an easy, secure way to share passwords, passkeys and Sign in with Apple credentials with your family and other trusted contacts. When you join a Shared Group, credentials shared in the group are suggested automatically when signing in on websites or in apps.
Choose which passwords to share and delete your passwords from the group at any time.
Anyone in the group can add passwords and all shared passwords will be kept in sync on everyone’s devices.
The person who created the group can add or remove other members or delete the group. You’ll receive a notification whenever anyone else has been invited to the group. You can leave the group at any time – and, when you leave, you’ll take your passwords and passkeys with you.
If you receive an invitation to a Shared Group
When someone adds you to a Shared Group, they have the option to notify you via Messages. When you tap the iMessage invitation, you should be taken the Passwords app to view and respond to the invitation.
If the Passwords app doesn't open, or you can't join a shared passwords group:
Update your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Vision Pro to the latest software version. Then ask your contact to invite you to the Shared Group again.
You may have received an invitation from someone who you don’t have saved in Contacts. If you're sure you know and trust this person, you can accept the invitation in Passwords.
Update your Apple device
When you move a password or passkey to a Shared Group, you can see that password or passkey only on a device with iOS 17 or later, iPadOS 17 or later, macOS Sonoma or later, or visionOS 2 or later. To share or view shared Sign in with Apple credentials, you need iOS 18 or later, iPadOS 18 or later, macOS Sequoia or later, or visionOS 2 or later.
When you join a Shared Group, you should update all of your Apple devices to make sure your passwords and passkeys are available everywhere.
Respond to the invitation in the Passwords app.
Open the Passwords app.
Under Shared Groups, select Invitations.
On the invitation, select View.
Select Accept to join the group (or decline the invitation).
If you don't recognise the person who invited you to the Shared Group
You shouldn’t accept an invitation to a shared password group from someone you don’t know or trust. Instead, you should decline the invitation in Passwords.
