Authorise your Mac to get purchases from the Book Store, Audiobook Store or the Audible website
If you purchase books or audiobooks on other devices from the Book Store or Audiobook Store in Apple Books, you can see those purchases on your Mac by authorising your computer. You can authorise up to five computers, iOS devices and iPadOS devices to use with your Apple ID account.
You can also authorise your Mac to play audiobooks downloaded from the Audible website (audible.com).
Authorise your Mac
In the Books app on your Mac, choose Store > Authorise This Computer.
If you haven’t already, sign in using the same Apple ID you use on your other devices.
Your Mac is now authorised for the Book Store and Audiobook Store.
De-Authorise your Mac
Make sure you de-authorise your Mac before you sell it, give it away, send it in for service or make major hardware upgrades.
In the Books app on your Mac, choose Store > Deauthorise This Computer.
Authorise your Mac to play audiobooks purchased on audible.com
Audible is a third-party website that sells audiobooks and other spoken programmes. Before you can listen to an audiobook that you download from the Audible website, your Mac needs to be authorised on audible.com.
In the Books app on your Mac, click Library in the toolbar, then click Audiobooks in the sidebar.
Find an item downloaded from the Audible website, then double-click the item.
Click Yes in the dialogue that appears.
Sign in to audible.com if necessary, then follow the onscreen instructions.
You can authorise up to three computers to play purchases from the Audible website. To de-authorise Audible on a computer, visit audible.com, sign in to your Audible account, and follow the onscreen instructions for de-authorising a computer.
Books authorisation is managed in Books. To learn how to see your authorised computers, de-authorise a computer no longer in your possession and more, see the Apple Support article about de-authorising your computer.
