Reboot your server after setting up an Open Directory master or replica in OS X Server (Yosemite)

After configuring an Open Directory Master or Replica, you should restart your server if it's using OS X Server (Yosemite).

You might not realize that some server settings or actions can configure your server as an Open Directory master or replica. If you perform one of these actions in OS X Server (Yosemite) using OS X v10.10.3, you should reboot your server.

These actions configure your server as an Open Directory master:

  • Using the Open Directory service to create a new Open Directory domain

  • Using the Xsan service to create a new SAN

  • Using the Profile Manager service to configure Device Management

  • Restoring from a Time Machine backup of an Open Directory Master, then opening the OS X Server app and reconfiguring your services

These actions configure your server as an Open Directory replica:

  • Using the Open Directory service to join an existing Open Directory domain as a replica

  • Using the Xsan service to join an existing SAN as a controller

  • Restoring from a Time Machine backup of an Open Directory Replica, then opening the OS X Server app and reconfiguring your services

After you've configured your server as an Open Directory master or replica, restart the computer once.
