Final Cut Pro X 10.1.x: Best practices for consolidating media files

Follow these tips when using Final Cut Pro X to consolidate your media files in one location.

If the media used in a project, event, or library is located in multiple folders or on multiple hard disks, you can consolidate all of the media in one location. Follow these best practices:

  1. If you want to consolidate media to an external volume, first consolidate the media to your local hard disk, then move the resulting consolidated-media folder to the new location on the external volume.
  2. Make sure that you have a reliable connection to the volumes that contain your media:
    • Avoid consolidating media over a Wi-Fi connection.
    • Check for secure cable connections to your external volumes, and avoid disconnecting volumes during the consolidation process.
