How to turn off iCloud Photos
iCloud Photos keeps your photos and videos securely stored in iCloud and up to date across your devices. If you turn off iCloud Photos for one or more devices, changes like new photos or deletions no longer sync between those devices and your other devices.
Turn off iCloud Photos on one device
If you turn off iCloud Photos on one device, you can choose to keep a copy of your photos on that device, or remove the photos without saving a copy. Changes like uploads of new photos, edits, and deletions no longer sync between that device and other devices using iCloud Photos.
On your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro
Download your original photos and videos. Make sure that you have enough storage space on your device.
Go to Settings, then tap your name.
Tap iCloud. Under Saved to iCloud, tap Photos.
To turn off iCloud Photos, deselect "Sync this [Device]".
To download a copy of the photos and videos saved to iCloud to your device, select Download Photos & Videos. To remove the photos without saving a copy to your device, select Remove from iPhone.
If you choose not to download a copy of your photos and videos, optimized photos are not the original resolution.
On your Mac
Download your original photos and videos. Make sure that you have enough storage space on your Mac.
From the Apple menu , choose System Settings, then click your name.
Click iCloud. Under Saved to iCloud, click Photos.
To turn off iCloud Photos, turn off "Sync this Mac".
To download a copy of the photos and videos saved to iCloud to your Mac, select Download. To remove the photos without saving a copy to your device, select Delete from Mac or Remove from Mac.
On your PC
Open iCloud for Windows. Make sure that you're signed in to your Apple Account.
Next to Photos, click Options.
Deselect iCloud Photos.
Click Done, then click Apply.
On your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD
Go to Settings.
Select Users and Accounts, then select your account.
In the iCloud section, choose Photos, then turn off iCloud Photos.
Turn off iCloud Photos in iCloud and all of your devices
If you turn off iCloud Photos for your account, your photos delete from iCloud 30 days after you stop using the service. New changes like uploads of new photos, edits, and deletions no longer sync across your devices.
On your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro
Download your original photos and videos. Make sure that you have enough storage space on your device.
If you own a Shared Photo Library, delete the Shared Library.
Go to Settings, then tap your name.
Tap iCloud, then tap Storage. In iOS 17 or earlier, tap Manage Account Storage.
Tap iCloud Photos.
Tap Turn Off and Delete Photos. In iOS 17 or earlier, tap Turn Off & Delete from iCloud.
Photos and videos stored in iCloud delete 30 days after you stop using the service. If you change your mind before then, you can select Undo Delete.
On your Mac
Download your original photos and videos. Make sure that you have enough storage space on your Mac.
If you own a Shared Photo Library, delete the Shared Library.
From the Apple menu , choose System Settings.
Click your name.
Click iCloud, then click Manage.
Select iCloud Photos, then click Turn Off and Delete Photos. In macOS Tahoe, click Turn Off and Delete from iCloud. In macOS Sonoma or earlier, select Photos, then click Turn Off and Delete.
Photos and videos stored in iCloud delete 30 days after you stop using the service. If you change your mind before then, you can select Recover iCloud Photos.
