Send App Store & iTunes Gifts via email

Through the App Store, iTunes Store, and Apple Books, you can gift money as store credit, books, audiobooks, music, movies, TV shows, or apps. Learn how to send or redeem a gift.

See an app or another item in the App Store, iTunes Store, or Apple Books that a friend or family member would like? You can buy it for them using the payment method that you have on file for your Apple ID. Learn how to add a payment method if you don't have one on file. You can also send someone money as store credit to buy something from the App Store, iTunes Store, or Apple Books.

To send App Store & iTunes Gifts1, here's what you need:

The recipient of your gift must have an Apple ID in the same country or region that you do. For example, you can't send a $25 App Store & iTunes Gift from the United States to a friend who lives in Norway.

1. The ability to send App Store & iTunes Gifts is not available in all countries and regions.

From your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You can gift amounts or items.

Gift an amount

  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. Tap Today, then tap your photo or the profile icon Profile icon in the upper-right corner. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Tap "Send Gift Card by Email."
  4. Enter your recipient's email address. If you want, add a message.
  5. Tap the amount that you want to gift, or tap other to enter a different amount.
  6. By default, the gift is sent immediately after you buy it. If you want to schedule the gift to send later, tap Today, then set the date that you want the gift to send.
  7. In the upper-right corner, tap Next.
  8. Select a theme for your gift, then tap Next.
  9. Tap Buy, then tap Buy Now to confirm.

Gift an app or another item

  1. Open the App Store app, iTunes Store app, or Books app. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Find the item that you want to gift. You can't gift a free item.
  3. In the App Store, tap More button in the upper-right corner of the app's product page, then tap Gift App Gift button. In the iTunes Store, tap Share button, then tap Gift Gift button. In the Books app, tap Gift Gift button.
  4. Enter your recipient's email address. If you want, add a message.
  5. By default, the gift is sent immediately after you buy it. If you want to schedule the gift to send later, tap Today, then set the date that you want the gift to send.
  6. In the upper-right corner, tap Next.
  7. Select a theme for your gift, then tap Next.
  8. Tap Buy, then tap Buy Now to confirm.

You can't gift individual songs using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you want to gift a single song, use iTunes on your Mac or PC.

From your Mac or PC

You can gift amounts or items. On a Mac, you can gift items from the iTunes Store or books from Apple Books. On a PC, you can gift items from the iTunes Store. You can't gift apps from a Mac or PC. 

Gift an amount

  1. Open iTunes or Books, then click Store or Book Store. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Under Quick Links on the right side of iTunes or Books, click Send Gift.
  3. Enter your recipient's email address.
  4. Add a message.
  5. Click the amount that you want to gift, or click Other to enter a different amount.
  6. By default, the gift is sent immediately after you buy it. If you want to schedule the gift to send later, select Other Date, then set the date that you want the gift to send.

  7. In the lower-right corner, click Next.
  8. Select a theme for your gift, then click Next.
  9. To confirm your gift, click Buy Gift. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.

Gift an item

  1. Open iTunes or Books. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Find the item that you want to gift. You can't gift a free item.
  3. Click the arrow to the right of the item's price Show sharing options menu button.

  4. From the menu, choose Gift This [item type].
  5. Enter your recipient's email address.
  6. If you want, add a message.
  7. By default, the gift is sent immediately after you buy it. If you want to schedule the gift to send later, select Other Date, then set the date you want the gift to send.

  8. In the lower-right corner, click Next.
  9. Select a theme for your gift and click Next.
  10. To confirm your gift purchase, click Buy Gift. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.

Redeem or resend a gift

When someone sends you a gift, you'll receive an email notifying you of it. In the email, tap or click Redeem. The item opens and begins to download. You might need to sign in with your Apple ID.

If you send a gift and the recipient doesn't receive an email, resend your App Store & iTunes Gift. You can resend a gift as long as the recipient hasn't redeemed it. Before you resend, double check that the recipient's email is spelled correctly.

Cancel a gift or find out if a gift was redeemed

After the recipient redeems the App Store & iTunes Gift, you'll get an email with a line item that says "App Store & iTunes Gift for [email address]."

If you want to cancel a gift, you can contact Apple Support up to two days before scheduled delivery.

  • When you buy App Store & iTunes Gifts, they're charged to the payment method that you have on file for your Apple ID, even if you have store credit available. You can't purchase an App Store & iTunes Gift with store credit.
  • If you're using Family Sharing and Ask To Buy is turned on for your account, you can't purchase gifts.
