Ways to remember passwords on Mac
If you have trouble keeping track of passwords, try these suggestions.
Create memorable login and Apple Account passwords
The best way to keep your Mac and the information associated with your Apple Account secure is to create secure, memorable passwords. When you create passwords, it’s recommended that you write them down and keep them in a secure location. You can also add a hint to help remind you of your login password. See Add a password hint.
If you don’t remember your Apple Account password, see If you forget your Apple Account password.
Use the Passwords app
You can use Passwords to store passwords for apps, websites, and Wi-Fi networks on your Mac. If you use iCloud, you can access those passwords on your iPhone, iPad, Vision Pro, and Windows devices. See Set up iCloud Keychain to autofill information.
Recover a forgotten password
If you are the administrator (or the only user) of the Mac, or if you encrypted your home folder and you forget that password, see the Apple Support article If you forgot your Mac login password.
If you forget your login password, and you’re not the administrator, ask the administrator to reset your login password.
Resetting your password creates a new login keychain. Passwords and other information saved in your previous keychain are not accessible and must be reentered.
