Add and download music, shows, and movies from the Apple Music catalog

If you're a member of Apple Music, you can add songs, albums, playlists, shows, and movies to your Library from anywhere in Apple Music. You can also download your content so that you can listen to or watch it when you're not connected to the Internet.

     


Before you add or download content, make sure to turn on iCloud Music Library on all of your devices.

When you add content to your Library, you can access it across all of your other devices, as long as you're signed in to all of your devices with the same Apple ID

You can also download content to your iOS device or computer so that you can listen to or watch it when you're not connected to the Internet. You must download the content to each device that you want to use for offline listening.

There's no cost to add or download content. Learn more about Apple Music and how to join. If you're not a member of Apple Music or want to purchase an individual song or album, you can buy it from the iTunes Store app or in iTunes on a Mac or PC.

How to add songs or albums to your Library

In the Music app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch; in iTunes on your Mac or PC; or in the Apple Music app on your Android phone, go to For You, Browse, or Search to view songs and albums available with your Apple Music membership. When you find a song or album that you want to add to your Library, follow these steps:

  • On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android phone, tap iOS pink plus icon to add a single song or tap  to add an entire album.
  • On your Mac or PC, click iTunes blue plus icon to add a single song or click  to add an entire album.

You can then find the songs and albums under Library.
 

Look for a star in Apple Music

When viewing an album in Apple Music, you might see a gray star  to the left of to the song's title. The star indicates that the song is one of the most popular songs among Apple Music members. Look for the star to find hit songs.

How to add playlists to your Library

In the Music app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch; in iTunes on your Mac or PC; or in the Apple Music app on your Android phone, go to For You, Browse, or Search to view playlists available with your Apple Music membership. When you find a playlist that you want to add to your Library, follow these steps:

  • On your iPhone, iPad, iPad touch, or Android phone: Tap  .
  • On your Mac or PC: Click .

On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android phone, you can then find the playlists in Library > Playlists. On your Mac or PC, you can find the playlists in the sidebar of Library under Apple Music Playlists.

If you want to add individual songs from a playlist to your Library, view the playlist, then tap or click iTunes blue plus icon next to the songs that you want to add.

How to add shows and movies to your Library

In the Music app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch; in iTunes on your Mac or PC; or in the Apple Music app on your Android phone, go to For You, Browse, or Search to view shows and movies available with your Apple Music membership. When you find a show or movie that you want to add to your Library, follow these steps:

  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or Android phone, tap  .
  • On your Mac or PC, click .

You can then find the shows and movies under Library on your iOS device or Android phone. On your Mac or PC, you can find shows and movies in the left sidebar of the Library window.

How to download content to listen to offline

Before you can download content to listen to offline, you need to add it to your Library. Then, in the Music app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch; in iTunes on your Mac or PC; or in the Apple Music app on your Android phone, find the item that you want to download, and follow these steps:

  • On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android phone: Tap Download  .
  • On your Mac or PC: Click Download  .

You'll see  when the download is complete.

If you have Automatic Downloads turned on, content automatically downloads to your device or computer when you add it to your Library. You won't see  or  .

You can download content on up to 10 devices. This content is accessible only during your Apple Music membership.

If you want to download content automatically

The first time that you download content to your device, you might see a message that asks if you want to download it automatically.

  • Tap Download Automatically to download all content automatically to your device. The next time you add an item to your Library, it also automatically downloads to your device.
  • Tap Not Now to download the item later.

If you want to turn on Automatic Downloads for all content that you add to your Library in the future, go to Settings > Music, then scroll to the Downloads section and tap Automatic Downloads.
