Mac Pro (2023) Space Frame Top Plate
Before You Begin
Remove the following parts before you begin:
Tools
3/8-inch ratcheting socket wrench
3/8-inch to 5/16-inch adapter
Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)
Torx T55 security bit
Note
You can remove the logic board with the speaker and SSD modules installed.
Some images in this procedure show the antennas and top input/output (I/O) board. However, you must remove both parts if you’re replacing the space frame top plate.
Removal
Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver to remove the three 8IP screws (923-03407) from the space frame top plate.
Attach the 3/8-inch to 5/16-inch adapter to the 3/8-inch ratcheting socket wrench and Torx T55 security bit.
Use the wrench, adapter, and Torx T55 security bit to remove the four T55 security screws (923-03415) from the top plate. Then lift the top plate off the space frame bars.
Note: If you need help holding the space frame in place while removing the screws, have someone assist you.
Reassembly
Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver to reinstall the three 8IP screws (923-03407) into the space frame top plate.
Align the four holes on the top plate with the ends of the space frame bars.
Important: The top I/O board opening (1) on the space frame top plate should be opposite the PCI Express (PCIe) slots frame mount plate (2) on the space frame bottom plate.
Use the wrench, adapter, and Torx T55 security bit to partially reinstall the four T55 security screws (923-03415) into the top plate.
Note: If you need help holding the space frame in place while reinstalling the screws, have someone assist you.
Temporarily reinstall the housing to ensure that the screw holes on the top plate align with the housing.
Use the wrench, adapter, and Torx T55 security bit to fully reinstall the four T55 security screws.
Caution: Ensure that you don’t scratch the housing as you tighten the screws.
Remove the housing.
