Change Power Adapter preferences on a Mac notebook
Use Battery System Preferences to set options that control your computer’s power adapter and energy use.
Note: Some of the options may not be available, depending on your Mac.
To open these preferences, choose Apple menu
Open the Power Adapter pane for me
Option | Description |
---|---|
Show battery status in menu bar | Displays the battery’s charge level in the menu bar. |
“Turn display off after” slider | Drag the slider to set the amount of time your computer or display should wait before going to sleep while plugged into a power adapter. |
Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off | Keeps the computer from going to sleep when the display sleeps. |
Put hard disks to sleep when possible | Puts the hard drive to sleep whenever the computer is inactive. |
Wake for network access | Even in sleep mode, wakes to provide access to shared resources, such as shared printers or Music playlists. |
Enable Power Nap while plugged into a power adapter | Backs up with Time Machine, and checks for email, calendar, and other iCloud updates while in sleep mode and plugged in. |
Automatic graphics switching | To extend the life of your battery, switches automatically between graphics modes. |
Restore Defaults | Restores all your preferences to the default options. |
