Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following part before you begin:

Tools

  1. Torque driver (teal, 0.75 kgf cm) (923-08131)

  2. Torque driver (green, 0.45 kgf cm) (923-00105)

  3. Adjustable torque driver (923-02995)

  4. Micro stix bit (923-01290)

  5. JCIS bit for fixed driver (923-0246)

  6. ESD-safe tweezers

  7. Nylon probe (black stick) (922-5065)

    • JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver (923-09177)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

 Caution

Avoid touching the grounding springs on and near the bottom speaker.

Removal

  1. Use a torque driver and the fixed driver JCIS bit to remove the four crosshead screws from the bottom speaker (1). Set aside the screws.

  2. Use a torque driver and the Micro stix bit to remove the trilobe screw from the bottom speaker (2). Set aside the screw.

  3. Remove the bottom speaker from the enclosure.

    • Caution: Don’t damage the grounding spring on the bottom speaker.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure that the rubber gasket is positioned as shown. If the gasket is out of position, use ESD-safe tweezers to reposition it.

  2. Position the bottom speaker in the enclosure. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 10 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and adjustable torque driver JCIS bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-11718) (1) into the bottom speaker.

  3. Use the teal torque driver and JCIS bit to install the following three new crosshead screws into the bottom speaker:

    • Two crosshead screws (923-11196) (2)

    • One crosshead screw (923-11197) (3)

  4. Use the green torque driver and Micro stix bit to install one new trilobe screw (923-11712) into the bottom speaker.

    • Caution: Don’t damage the grounding springs on the bottom speaker.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
