Create a new transit card in Wallet to use with Apple Pay on your iPhone
Here’s what you need to create a new Beijing Transit or Shanghai Transit card in Wallet to use with your iPhone:3
- An iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or later, set up with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode
- A China UnionPay debit card in Beijing, or a China UnionPay credit or debit card in Shanghai that you've added to Wallet
- iOS 11.3 or later
- An Internet connection
- An Apple ID signed into iCloud
- Device region set to China mainland
To create a transit card in Wallet:
- Open Wallet and tap the plus sign

- Tap Continue. In China mainland, you might be required to create or update a 6-digit passcode.
- Tap Beijing Transit Card or Shanghai Transit Card.
- Select an amount to put on your transit card. If you are using a Shanghai transit card, you will be charged an additional, 20 RMB refundable deposit.
- Follow the steps to create a new transit card on your iPhone.
Create a new transit card in Wallet to use with Apple Pay on your Apple Watch
Here's what you need to create a new transit card in Wallet to use with Apple Pay on your Apple Watch:3
- An Apple Watch Series 1, Apple Watch Series 2, or later paired with your iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or later4
- watchOS 4.3 or later and iOS 11.3 or later
To create a new transit card in Wallet and add it to your Apple Watch:
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Swipe up and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Tap Add Card.
- Tap Continue. In China mainland, you might be required to create or update a 6-digit passcode.
- Tap Beijing Transit Card or Shanghai Transit Card.
- Select an amount to put on your transit card. If you are using a Shanghai transit card, you will be charged an additional, 20 RMB refundable deposit.
- Follow the instructions to create a new card.
- Start riding transit with Apple Pay.
Transfer the balance of your transit card to Wallet on your iPhone
Here’s what you need to transfer the balance of your physical transit card to Wallet on your iPhone:3
- An iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, or later, set up with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode
- iOS 11.3 and later
- An Apple ID signed into iCloud
- Device region set to China mainland
- In Shanghai, a transit card with the letter U before the number
- A transit card balance of at least 1 RMB in Beijing, and more than 20 RMB in Shanghai. If you are using a Shanghai transit card, a 20 RMB refundable deposit will be deducted from the balance that you're transferring.
To transfer your physical transit card balance to your iPhone:2
- Open the Wallet app and tap the plus sign

- Tap Continue.
- Tap Beijing Transit Card or Shanghai Transit Card.
- Tap Transfer Existing Card.
- Enter the 4 digits of your card number that you're asked to enter. See the images below for help.
- Rest the top of your iPhone on the middle of the transit card. Leave it on the card without moving it until you see "Card Added" on the screen. This process could take a few minutes to complete.
For Beijing transit cards, verify the last four digits of the card number.
For Shanghai transit cards, verify the first four digits of the card number.
If you are using a Shanghai transit card, after you transfer the balance of your physical transit card to Wallet, you can redeem your original deposit by returning the physical card to the card issuer. The 20 RMB refundable deposit that's deducted from your balance when you transfer it to Wallet will remain in Wallet. You can redeem this deposit through the Shanghai Transit app. Refer to the instructions from your transit card issuer.
Transfer the balance of your transit card to Wallet on your Apple Watch
Here's what you need to transfer the balance of your transit card to your Apple Watch:3
- An Apple Watch Series 1, Apple Watch Series 2, or later paired with your iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, or later4
- watchOS 4.3 or later and iOS 11.3 or later
- In Shanghai, a transit card with the letter U before the number
To transfer the balance of a physical transit card to your Apple Watch:2
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
- Swipe up and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Tap Add Card.
- Tap Continue.
- Tap Beijing Transit Card or Shanghai Transit Card.
- Tap Transfer Existing Card.
- Follow the steps to transfer the balance.
Move your transit card from your iPhone to your Apple Watch
To move your transit card from your iPhone to your Apple Watch:
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone and tap the My Watch tab. If you have multiple watches, choose one.
- Tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Scroll down to the transit card that you want to move to your Apple Watch. Then, tap the Add button next to the card.
You can use the Watch app to move your transit card back to your iPhone. You can't move your Beijing or Shanghai transit card during a transit journey.
Unlike credit and debit cards in Wallet, transit cards can exist on only one device at a time.

With the Beijing Transit and Shanghai Transit apps, you can do things like add money to your transit card in Wallet and get a transit-card refund. Refer to instructions from your transit card issuer.
- Apple Pay isn't available for children under 13. Age varies by country or region.
- Check with your card issuer for information about transit cards you can add to Apple Pay.
- If you sign out of iCloud or turn off Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode on your iPhone or Apple Watch, all credit, debit, and transit cards are removed from that device. When you remove a transit card from any device, the remaining balance will be stored and available to be transferred to the same or another iPhone or Apple Watch that is connected to a network and signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID.
- Apple Watch (1st generation) and Apple Watch Edition (1st generation) aren't compatible with Express Transit for Apple Pay in China mainland.
