Use Clean Energy Charging on your iPhone

With iOS 16.1 and later, your iPhone charges when lower carbon-emission electricity is available. Clean Energy Charging is on by default in the United States.

How Clean Energy Charging works

When Clean Energy Charging is on, your iPhone uses a forecast of carbon emissions. Your iPhone charges when cleaner energy is available.*

Clean Energy Charging works together with Optimized Battery Charging to learn your charging habits. Clean Energy Charging works only where you charge your iPhone regularly for long periods, such as your home or workplace.

If your charging habits vary or you're in a new location, Clean Energy Charging doesn't engage. To get the forecast of carbon emissions for your area, you must turn on some location settings. Your iPhone doesn't send the location information it uses for this feature to Apple.
